一、 用介词代替if条件状语从句

without, but for等引起的介词短语有时相当于一个虚拟条件句,假设的情况不以条件从句表示出来,而是暗含在上下文中.通常对现在的虚拟：would（should, might, could） （not）+do；对过去的虚拟：would（should, might, could） （not） + have done.

例如：Without the teacher’s help（等于If there hadn’t been the teacher’s help）, I couldn’t have made so much progress. 要是没有老师的帮助,我不可能取得那么大的进步.

But for the rain（等于If it hadn’t been for the rain）, we should have had a pleasant journey. 要不是下雨,我们会有一次愉快的旅行.
