New Hydropower Station in Garze Got Hefty Loans
A hydropower station planned in Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, received 53 billion Yuan in loans on Feb. 13 from seven domestic fi nancial institutions. The hydropower station will he an installed generating capacity of 3 million kilowatts with a total reservoir capacity of 10.8 billion cubic meters. Its fi rst generator is expected to come into service at the end of 2021 and the entire station to be completed in 2023.
China, Nepal Set up Organization for Cultural Cooperation
A non-governmental organization named “Kailash” between Nepal and China was set up on Feb.2 in Kathmandu. The organization is aimed to promote understanding, trust and friendship between the Chinese and Nepalese people through activities related to Tibetan Buddhi.
Lhasa to Build World’s Highest Basketball Home Court
The Sports Bureau of Tibet Autonomous Region will create a professional basketball team, and the home court for the team will be built in Lhasa, 3658 meters above sea level, making it the world’s highest basketball home court.
The government of Tibet Autonomous Region has proposed upgrading four areas in its prefectures to cities, thereby increasing the number of urban residents to over 30 percent by 2020.
Tibet’s impoverished population has dropped by about 30 percent from 2013 to the end of 2014. Some 130,000 people in Tibet were lifted out of poverty in 2014.
